Internet connections overview

Connecting to the internet

You can use your mobile device to connect a computer to the Internet. To do this, you need to have your mobile device connected to the computer via a USB cable or via Bluetooth. For more information, see Connectivity overview.

Good to know about internet connections

  • If you are using a device with two SIM cards (a dual SIM device), SIM1 is used for creating an internet connection. SIM1 is in the internal SIM card holder of the device. If you want to create an internet connection using the other SIM card, swap the SIM cards in your device.

  • Take into account that in addition to the standard fees for an internet connection, extra fees can be charged by the network operator if you are connecting to the internet outside of your home network.

  • Transferring large amounts of data over an internet connection may lead to high data transfer costs. Nokia Ovi Suite displays a warning message when you have transferred a certain amount of data over an internet connection. If you want to change the amount of transferred data for which the warning message is displayed, go to Tools > Options > Connect to internet. You can also choose not to display the warning message at all. When the warning message is displayed, you can still continue with the data transfer if you wish. If you disconnect from the internet, the ongoing data transfer is also interrupted.

  • Nokia Ovi Suite uses Internet Explorer’s proxy settings for internet connections, except for the proxy username and password. If the internet connection does not seem to work, you can set the proxy username and password manually. To do so, select Tools > Options. Proxy settings are available in the General tab. Contact your IT helpdesk personnel or similar if you need more information.
